COVID-19 SAFETY MEASURES

The Uganda Cancer Institute has maintained strict adherence to the Ministry of Health guidance throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and will continue to do so. This includes mask requirements, enhanced cleaning, procedures, encouragement of frequent hand washing/sanitizing, and screening requirements where required. The Ministry continuously monitors the Covid situation.

The congress organizing committee will strictly adhere to COVID-19 safety procedures as outlined by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health

All Congress participants are required to adhere to the COVID-19 policies and procedures including the following:

Screening: Screening will be performed prior to accessing the Conference Center as per international standards. 

Vaccinations: All congress participants are required to have completed their vaccination schedule and will be required to show evidence of this before accessing the congress proceedings. 

Face-Masking: All congress participants will be required to wear a mask at all times. Masks are mandatory on all public transportation and public places outside the conference venue. Extra masks will be available at the help desk.

Social distancing measures: Social distancing practices will be implemented according to the national guidelines 

Hand Sanitizer Stations – We will have hand washing facilities and/or sanitizing systems easily accessible to all delegates throughout the conference.

Safety Signage: Signage will be placed to remind all attendees to social distance, wear masks at all times, and frequently wash/ sanitize their hands.

Covid -19 preparedness at accommodation venue: The Congress organizing committee strongly advises all delegates to reserve accommodation either the Kampala Serena Hotel or the Speke Resort Munyonyo (see accommodation tab under congress information). Strict safety measures have been arranged at these establishments for all delegates to ensure safety during stay within the country and travel to and from the airport. In addition, Covid-testing arrangements have been made at these facilities for the convenience of delegates who will require repeat testing prior to returning to their countries. 

Please note: All delegates will be required to undertake Covid testing at Entebbe International airport regardless of the Covid result they travel with from their home country.  The congress organizing committee will put in place an arrangement to assist delegates with this process at the airport.

Visa Requirements

All visitors travelling to Uganda are responsible for checking visa requirements prior to their travel. The government of Uganda has recently issued a directive indicating that any person intending to travel to Uganda must apply online and have a Travel Authorization/Visa Approval Letter before embarking on their travel to Uganda as there are no visas issued on arrival.

These are the procedures of applying for a Ugandan Visa online.

Step-1: Log onto www.visas.immigration.go.ug , start a new application and accept the disclaimer.

Step-2: Choose the;

  • Application type (Visa).
  • Category (Ordinary, Multiple-Entry, Diplomatic and Official, Transit, East Africa Tourist Visa).
  • Subcategory (single-entry, multiple-entry for 6-12 months, 12-24 months or 24-36 months).

Step-3: Fill the electronic form (Personal details of applicant).

Step-4: Add required documents depending on the category and reason for travel (Copy of recent passport size photograph, Copy of passport bio-data page, Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate, Recommendation letter, Police clearance, Invitation Letter etc.)

Step-5: Submit the application.

Step-6: Make payment for the visa applied for using either a MasterCard or Visa Card. All applications and payments are made online www.visas.immigration.go.ug  

Once the application is submitted and paid for, it will be studied by an Immigration Officer upon which a decision will be made within 2-3 days. If approved, an email with the Travel Authorization/Approval letter will be sent to the Applicant who then proceeds to download it, print it and embark on their travel.
Please note that during the approval process additional information may be required. All applicants are advised to submit their visa applications at least ten days before their intended date of travel.
